RFID / Electromagnetic Coupling
Electromagnetic coupling sounds like a very complex subject to research, but after looking into it, i’ve found it’s being used in many technologies in everyday life.
Goal
- Understand how RFID and the principals behind it (electromagnetic coupling) work.
- Build a system that uses RFID as a core method of operation.
Questions
- How is information transmitted?
- How is the information stored?
- How secure is the information on the card?
- Can it be trusted for things such as payment?
Plan of Action
- Read the standards documentation
- Experiment with RFID tags found in my surroundings using available RFID tools
- Determine if RFID tags can be overwritten / manipulated
Demo
- Create an RFID controlled Music Player
Applications in Everyday Life
- RFID can be used wherever you need to attach a small amount of information to a physical object
- Access Control
- Library Book Tracking
- Usage Tracking
- Glucose Monitors
